NEW YEAR 2009 HEALTHY RESOLUTIONS
Don't wait to have an accident or any health problem to understand that you should take care of your body when you are still lucky enough to be healthy. This is the new year, so you should decide to follow a healthy diet, and some important rules as much as possible.
During 2009, try to eat less oil, sugars and sodium. You have been eating heavy meals for Christmas and New year but it's now time to start a new diet and be creative when cooking both delicious and healthy dishes.
If eating healthy food was your habit before the holidays you should start again as fast as possible, the 1st of January is the best date, no need to wait any more.
If you have been eating sweet and cakes during two weeks, it's time to start eating fruits again! And also vegetables, as it might not have been your favorite dish for the 2 past weeks, it's now time to eat vegetables daily. Of course better eat raw or boiled vegetables than fried ones! Please, also don't put dressing, or maybe just lemon and olive oil dressing.
Eating veg doesn't includes potatoes and rice, but French bean, cabbage, carrot, lettuce, tomato, and other low calorie and low carbohydrate vegetables.
Hoping you have been eating unsalted nuts during the holidays, we actually don't believe. It's now time for you to know that nuts and snacks are high caloric food, and that when you eat salted nuts and snacks you add to the risk. So don't eat nuts any more until Christmas 2009.
And what about alcohol? If as most of the people you have been drinking too much wine and other liquors during the year end holidays it's also now time to stop this consumption. Alcohol is not only bad for your diet, with high calory, but also for your health, physical and mental health. So it would be nice among new year resolutions to decide not to drink any alcohol until at least until Valentine's day in February, and better, until New Year party 2009.
One of the trick you should have used during the holidays is to alternate wine and water, and not wait to have finished all the bottles of wine to start drinking water, because it might be too late and you might be drunk already.
About your daily food consumption, do you know that it is better to eat small portions than big ones? During Christmas it's more about big portions once a day, but it is now time to lose this bad habit. Don't let you starve the whole day and eat too much in evening, better eat 3 or 5 times a day, but small dishes, as people do in Asia. And when you have an official dinner with colleagues, friends, or family try to eat some fruits one or two hours before the meal to avoid eating too much when it's dinner time.
Also one of the worst behaviour people use to have is to eat just before going to sleep. You don't need it! You don't need any food before going to bed because you won't spend any energy for at least 8 hours. Having a heavy family dinner and then going straight to the bed is a guaranteed way to put on weight. And if you do it often, no wonder why you have gained a lot of weight.
When you stay home the only aliments that should be easily available are fruits. Don't keep cookies or chocolate at home, and if one day you can't help eating something sweet just go out especially to buy it, eat it outside, and don't bring any left sweet at home. Keep a basket of fruits at home in the main room where you spend most of the time, so if you have any temptation, it will be for fruits. After dinner always clean the table right away, and only let the fruit basket on the table.
Last, always remember that a good diet can never be enough, and that exercice is also primordial, and should be in your resolutions list for 2009. So try to be more active and avoid spending your day watching TV or DVD, better go out, even if it's just to walk around and do nothing special but window shopping.
