To all of you who think we advocates for safer prescription narcotics are here to cause you pain, relax.

No one is suggesting we get rid of all pain meds. There is a legitimate reason for the prescription of some.

The problem is with medications like Oxycontin. Purdue said it was a "safer" alternative. Turns out they were dead wrong, and settled one of the largest cases in pharma history.
These giant pharmaceutical corporations have the responsibility to make SAFER pain medications, but they don't. They know that their sales of these drugs has greatly increased in recent years, and they know their product is being abused.

Also, doctors such as S. Rao Korabathina need to be punished. Dr Korabathina was arrested in New Port Richey, FL last yr for over-prescribing narcotics without examination of undercover officers, and committing Medicaid fraud. He knowingly wrote prescriptions to drug dealers. He has not faced any time behind bars, nor is it likely that he will.

We need tougher sentences for these doctors.

We do not need to ban all pain meds, as so many posters can only see polar ends of a debate, and therefore think any action is a violation of their rights somehow.

We DO need a database. If you aren't seeing 4 doctors each week, and being prescribed narcotics from all of them, I doubt you will have any issues, so rest soundly tonight, Crist is not peeking in your window.

The largest population known to abuse prescription narcotics, and fatally overdose from them are NOT kids! Teens just happen to be among the fastest growing population of addicts.

Why not? They have watched their parents down Prozac each day, take an Ambien at night, and have had Ritalin and Adderall (both methamphetamines) shoved down their throat so their parents did not have to parent them.

The largest population of addicts are adults who initially had a narcotic medication prescribed to them when they were in pain and needed it!!!

You do know that the FDA is funded by big pharma? Each time a new drug is studied, the company who has introduced the drug, funds the study. It is called a user-fee system. Many doctors have recently questioned the safety of this practice when commenting in the NEJM.

Wake up people, stop singing "Viva Viagra" and see what these giant corporations and their high paid lobbyists (more lobbyists than any other industry in the US) are doing to this country!
